St Lucia is a small coastal town 250km north of Durban, inside the iSimangaliso Wetland Park – South Africa‘s FIRST UNESCO World Heritage Site, declared in 1999.
The town is built around Lake St Lucia – the largest estuarine lake in Africa, 325 to 350 sq km, 80% of KZN’s estuarine area. The lake is only 0.9 meters deep on average, but it has 1,200 hippos and 800 Nile crocodiles living inside it.
St Lucia is the only town in South Africa where a UNESCO World Heritage Site is your backyard. No car needed – you walk to boat jetty, restaurants, beach trail.

Big Five Safari – It is the only state park in KZN where you can see lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino in one day.
