Where is Suncoast Casino Hotel in Durban? My First Impression

Suncoast Casino Hotel in Durban and Entertainment World is located at the northern end of Durban’s Golden Mile, right on the beachfront.

Full Address:
Suncoast Boulevard, Marine Parade, Durban 4056, South Africa.
It is also listed as 20 Battery Beach Road, Stamford Hill, Durban.

Location details:

  • Situated adjacent to the Kings Park Sporting Precinct
  • It’s on Durban’s famous beachfront promenade with its own semi-private beach, which was rated as one of the top 3 beaches in South Africa
  • The complex is designed to complement Durban’s art deco heritage
  • It opened in November 2002 and is owned by Tsogo Sun

How to get there:
If you are staying in central Durban or on the beachfront, it’s a 5-10 minute drive from the city centre. It’s at the north end of the Golden Mile, so you can walk there along the promenade if you are staying at hotels near uShaka or North Beach. Plenty of parking inside.

Suncoast Towers Hotel Review, Rooms, Views and Prices – My Honest Experience

Suncoast Casino Durban Hotels – Is Suncoast Towers Worth It?

I have stayed at Suncoast Towers multiple times over the last 2 years, so this review is from my own personal experience – not just from the website.

For me, it’s the best option if you want to stay right on Durban beachfront but still be close to Suncoast Casino and the Golden Mile promenade.

My Overall Review: 4.5/5

What I like most is the location and the view. You walk out of the hotel and you are literally at Suncoast Casino, with 20+ restaurants and the beach in front. It’s quiet at night compared to hotels in central South Beach. Staff have always been very helpful on all my stays.

The only negative – parking can be busy on weekends because you share parking with the casino. And the rooms are huge, it’s a 5-star, and luxury.

Rooms I Have Tried:

At Suncoast Casino Hotel & Towers in Durban it’s 165 rooms in total. Arranged over 10 floors, right on the beachfront at 20 Battery Beach Road, next to Suncoast Casino and Entertainment World.

All rooms have free WiFi, aircon, 24hr room service – they list it as 165 accommodations / guestrooms.

  • 5-star property
  • 165 rooms total – this includes both the Hotel side and the luxury Towers side
  • Check-in 2pm / Check-out 11am
  • Free full breakfast included
  • Classic King / Twin Room – This is the standard room. Big comfortable bed, small balcony, mini-fridge, coffee station, safe. Clean and modern. Good for 2 people.
  • Luxury Sea Facing Suite – This is what I book now. Much bigger, separate lounge area, huge balcony with full sea view. You can see the whole Durban beachfront and the sunrise from the bed. Worth the extra money.

Views:

This is why I keep coming back. Ask for a High Floor, Sea Facing room. On floor 10 and above you get a 180-degree ocean view. On the city side you see the Moses Mabhida Stadium. My tip: email them 2 days before and request “high floor sea view, away from elevator” – they have always given it to me.

Prices – What I Paid:

Prices change a lot depending on season. From my bookings:

  • Standard Room Sea Facing Non Smoking: From ZAR 1,786 – per night
  • Standard Room City Facing Non Smoking: From ZAR 1,576 per Night
  • Deluxe Suite with Sleeper Couch and Balcony Smoking: R6,596 – R per night

Weekends and December holidays are almost double. Weekdays (Sunday to Thursday) are always cheapest. Includes breakfast when you book on their official site

Hotels Inside vs Outside Suncoast Casino Durban – Which is Better?

Outside Suncoast Casino Durban
Outside Suncoast Casino Durban

This is the question everyone asks me, so I will make it simple.

There is actually only ONE hotel inside Suncoast Casino itself. That’s Suncoast Hotel & Towers. Everything else is outside, but very close.

I have stayed both inside and just outside. Here is the honest difference:

Hotels INSIDE Suncoast Casino:

Hotels INSIDE Suncoast Casino:

Hotels INSIDE Suncoast Casino:

Only one: Suncoast Hotel & Towers – 164 rooms

You sleep, eat, gamble, watch movies, and go to the beach without moving your car. You get direct access to the casino, 8 restaurants, and the private beach boardwalk.

Best for: First time visitors, couples who want entertainment at night, people who don’t want to drive at night in Durban.

Downside: More expensive. Breakfast not always included in cheapest rate. Parking is R150 per day. Rooms are a bit dated compared to price.

Hotels OUTSIDE but walking distance [2-5 min walk]:

These are better value and often newer:

  • Southern Sun Elangeni & Maharani – 10 min walk, bigger pool, better sea view, usually R1,950 cheaper per night
  • Garden Court South Beach – 20 min walk, budget friendly, good for families
  • Protea Hotel by Marriott Durban Umhlanga – not walking distance but 8 min drive, quieter if you don’t like casino noise

Best for: Families, budget travelers, if you want a quiet sleep without casino music downstairs.

So which should you book?

Use this quick table I made:
Choose Inside Suncoast Choose Outside Suncoast
You want everything in one building You want cheaper price for same beach
You plan to be at casino / restaurants till late You want quiet night, no casino noise
You have no car You have a car or don’t mind Uber
It’s your anniversary / special trip You stay 3+ nights and want to save
My personal verdict:

If it’s 1-2 nights and you want the full Suncoast experience, stay INSIDE at Suncoast Towers. Book a Tower room, not the standard hotel room, the view is 10x better and worth the extra.

If you stay 3+ nights or you travel with kids, stay OUTSIDE at Southern Sun Elangeni. You will still walk to Suncoast every night for dinner and movies, but you will sleep quieter and save about R1200 total.

Entertainment at Suncoast Casino Durban Even If You Don’t Gamble

Suncoast Casino Durban
Suncoast Casino Durban

This is the best part about Suncoast – 80% of people who go there daily don’t even gamble. You don’t need to touch a slot machine. I spent a full day there without gambling and this is what you can actually do:

Restaurants in One Place [No Casino Needed]
You can eat from cheap to luxury without entering the casino floor:

You don’t need a casino card to eat there. Just walk in.

  • Suncoast CineCentre – The New 2026 Refurbished One
This is why locals go. Many screens, including VIP with recliners.
Ticket is around R120-R170. Much cheaper than Gateway.
It’s on the far left side, completely separate from gambling area. Kids allowed.
  • The Beach & Promenade Direct Access
This is what most blogs miss. From Suncoast you walk straight onto Durban’s Golden Mile beachfront promenade.
You get private boardwalk, no need to cross roads.
    Morning: jogging, cycling.
Evening: sunset walk to Moses Mabhida Stadium – 20 min walk.
  • Arcade & Kids Entertainment
  • Magic Company arcade – games, bowling, for kids 5-15 years
  • Beach mall with small shops – not big shopping, but souvenirs, swimwear
  • Live shows – Every Friday / Saturday they have free live music at the outdoor amphitheatre. No ticket.
  • The Non-Gambling Bar Lounges
You can sit at The Deck or Ligula Lounge with sea view, have a drink, watch the sea. No need to gamble. Most tourists don’t know this – they think you must gamble to sit there.

My Tip If You Don’t Gamble:

Go like this: 4pm – Beach walk, 6pm – Movie at Nu Metro, 8pm – Dinner at The Bungalow, 9:30pm – Live music outside. Zero gambling.

And if you are staying at Suncoast Hotel & Towers, all this is included – you don’t need to drive anywhere at night, which is safer in Durban.

Good for: Families, couples who don’t gamble, solo travelers who want safe night entertainment.

Not good for: If you want quiet – Friday and Saturday nights it’s very loud till 11pm because of music.

How much does it really cost at Suncoast Towers? Breakfast, Parking, Resort Fee?
